I recently read an article from the NIH that points to Turmeric as a way to relieve pain in osteoarthritis. Since so many of my yoga students come to class with aches in their fingers and other joints, I thought I would pass this information along.
Although Turmeric is often found in Middle Eastern dishes, it’s also available in supplement form.
Here is the quote from the NIH website (http://www.nlm.nih.gov/medlineplus/druginfo/natural/662.html):
“Osteoarthritis. Some research shows that taking turmeric extracts, alone or in combination with other herbal ingredients, can reduce the pain caused by osteoarthritis. In one study, turmeric worked about as well as ibuprofen for reducing osteoarthritis pain”
